Students with Western Maricopa Education Center are getting a lesson in life.
Charlie Ellis spent a decade serving in the National Guard, and now he's teaching the next generation of carpenters.
Ellis also runs a nonprofit rebuidling homes for veterans, called Operation Enduring Gratitude.
Their current mission is helping Lagean Levar. Levar lost her husband, a Navy veteran, about a year ago.
Her home was in such rough shape it was going to be condemned.
That is until Ellis stepped in and agreed to do the repairs and using his students to help.
Ellis says the project should wrap up in the coming months — but he hopes the feeling of helping others last forever.
